Service Description

Designed for: Staff exposed to trauma disclosures or the support of those who are trauma experienced. Summary: This course offers a comprehensive introduction to trauma-informed practice, with interactive activities to engage participants and support all learning styles. Content: By the end of this course, participants will: Learn the effects of trauma on individuals’ lives, behaviours, and mental health. Understand trauma-informed care and the skills required to create safe and supportive environments that empower individuals impacted by trauma. Identify strategies for applying trauma-informed practice in their specific sector. Identify the boundaries of their own roles with regard to trauma disclosure. Reflect on their own self-care practices and what vicarious trauma can feel like. Section 1: Understanding Trauma and Its Impact Define trauma and understand its various types. Recognise the effects of trauma on the brain and body. Identify common signs and symptoms of trauma in individuals. Section 2: Delivering Trauma-Informed Care Understand the core principles of trauma-informed care. Learn how to recognise and avoid retraumatisation. Develop strategies for fostering safety, trust, and empowerment. Discuss the boundaries of workers when dealing with trauma disclosure. Section 3: Applying Trauma-Informed Practice in your specific sector Learn specific strategies for trauma-informed practice within your sector. Understand how the specific work you do could impact you, the worker. Develop boundaries and self-care practices for professionals. Learn the differences between Vicarious Trauma, Secondary Trauma and Compassion Fatigue. ​ Price is per person and a certificate of attendance will be issued after the course.
